Do it by starlight...

it's the recommended strategy for those who go pee in the night. If you flick on the fluorescents, you prematurely shut off the brain's melatonin which in turn may end your good night's sleep. To ensure a post-void return to dreamland, get an itty bitty night light or just carefully fumble your way to the can.

Glad to know I'm doing something right by using night lites. We are pitch black out here - no street lights so we actually can "pee by starlight" if the sky is clear! Your posts always give me a smile and knowledge.

I have seen too many post-fall injuries in people who have fallen while going to the bathroom at night. So go with the little night light. It makes enough difference for safety's sake :-)

Judy, unless it's urgent, do you think it matters to the bladder if you just roll over and go back to sleep or get up because you're tired of lying awake for an hour, want some excitement. In other words, does it make a difference re. ability to hold it during the day. (am I spoiling it if I get up? or keeping it happy.)

Regular night lights are now too bright for me but those green glow things are ok, especially if recessed and near the top of the steep staircase.

heh
People in my extended family have always teased me about my penchant for night lights, but I can't stand turning on the regular light during a midnight tinkle.
And now I am backed up by a doc. :)

JM: Pitch dark out there? I can't imagine. I can pee by the light of the neighbors' anti-theft spotlight on their second floor roof!

Ruth: Well said. I need to stop my more or less careful fumbling, particularly walking down the stairs in the early morning with a hungry cat weaving her way through my legs.

Dorsey: I think your bladder is flexible enough to accomodate your roll over strategy. Some women do 'give in' too many times a day and end up with spoiled little bladders that must be accomodated frequently. I need to get me some of those green glow things by my staircase.

Cil: A penchant for night lights...so do you have a collection worth sharing? Maybe Cinderella, or My Little Pony themed? I think a Good Housekeeping article on night lights is in order here.

I never turn on the light at night - but my husband does. I guess they have to be able to aim!
