Chantix revisited

I asked the Pfizer rep today what was up with this name Chantix (see below if you haven't a clue what Chantix is). She said the original name was supposed to be Champix, but that sounded too much like Chapstick.

Good choice to change--you do not want a smoking cessation drug with a name like a prize-winning feminine hygiene product.

Do you have any idea if trials of Chantix will be conducted in Denver or Boulder?

I assume you're referring to the item in the paper yesterday about speculation that Chantix will be useful for other addictions such as alcohol and overeating.

This is exciting news. When I first heard about the way Chantix worked (hooking up with brain cells in a way that makes them release that 'feel-good' neurotransmitter dopamine, I felt sure that it would ultimately be tapped for other uses.

That said, however, I could find no information about volunteering for trials utilizing Champix for other indications here in Denver or anywhere else.

By the way, I've been pleased so far with patient success at smoking cessation using Chantix.
